Love Tiger Sketch

I loved this tiger sketch so much I had to post it up. It's amazing how different a drawing can look from the initial black and white drawing to after it has been colored in illustrator. I can't decide which I like better. To see the color illustration go here. ;)

Blackbird Pie

Blackbird Pie - Erin Clark

An illustration in honor of Thanksgiving & inspired by the nursery rhyme BlackBird Pie:

Sing a song of sixpence a pocket full of rye,
Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened the birds began to sing,
Oh wasn't that a dainty dish to set before the king?
The king was in his counting house counting out his money,
The queen was in the parlour eating bread and honey
The maid was in the garden hanging out the clothes,
When down came a blackbird and pecked off her nose!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Pumpkin Designs - Erin Clark

Once I start, I just can't stop. I had ideas for more so I just had to get them down in my sketchbook. I'm going to be doing some carving this weekend so maybe I should get more than one pumpkin... :)

Can I Haz Brainz?

Can I Haz Brains? - Erin Clark

I am participating in a collaborative zombie art show starting this next week, I don't have all the details now but as soon as I get my hands on the poster with the info I will post it up. I really like how this turned out, as it is a selection of some of my favorite things... zombies and cats. >;)

The Wolf Returns

The Wolf Returns - Erin Clark

I finally got my hands on this version of the wolf with the birds- my computer failed and ate this file so I had to scan a copy that I had already printed. I rather like this version, it gives it more of a spookier feel. Happy October!

Halloween Pumpkins 2010 - Erin Clark

Creation Mosaic

Mosaic Creation - Erin Clark

A snapshot from the mosaic I have been working on. It turned out pretty incredible despite the finger injury. :) It was a rendition of Michealangelo's "The Creation" from the Sistine Chapel ceiling. A pretty intense project if I do say so myself. I'll post up pics of the finished hung project when I get my hands on them...

With Eyes As Big As...

I was thinking about Hans Christian Anderson's story The Tinder Box today. A story one day I swear I will illustrate. Until then, I have this sketch I did during my break at work. "And there sat a Dog with eyes as big as Mill Wheels..."

Gulf Oil Spill Update

We already know all about the explosion/oil spill that happened in the Gulf of Mexico about a month ago that killed 11 people and opened up a gaping hole in an oil well that is continually spilling oil into the ocean. I really hate looking at things like this because it makes me so upset to think how much life is being affected/killed every day by this horrific accident. Here is a sampling of some pictures of the aftermath of the disaster.

You can see the rest of the photos here.

A little Eagle Love

If you liked the Barn Owl Cam, then I'm sure you'll find this just as pleasurable. Apparently there are lots of sites where you can watch wild birds nest while you are at work. (As I am doing now) I love this because there are a couple of different camera angles and you can see how beautiful and windy it is up in the trees on Hornby Island. Sigh...

You can check these gorgeous eagles out here. :)

Dream Fox Part One

I was reading Neil Gaiman's graphic novel Sandman last night and felt inspired to do a tribute piece with the little she-fox and the giant night fox. I had enough time to do a few sketches and hopefully will have more time tonight to work on them! ;)

DIY Wedding

I finished this project for DIY Wedding Event a few months ago, and never got around to posting up the finished product so I thought why not today? I worked with Tess Luechtefeld marketing company and designed the whole shebang: branding, illustrations & designing some of the details (like background and buttons) of how the website would look.

All in all it was a really cute project & and I'm hoping to see do well among all the other Do-it-Yourself sites.

The actual site is not live yet, but you can view an online mock-up version here.

Penguins Can Really be Blue

I was researching penguins at my job today and came across something rather fun: Blue Penguins!

I needed to do a 3-step drawing that illustrated how to draw a penguin and was searching through Google to find some cute penguin reference. After a few minutes I came up on a photo I thought for sure was photoshopped. (You can't trust anything anymore really) A shiny mini penguin with blue feathers and eyes! Fascinated, I searched more to find out that these penguins are called "Fairy Penguins" because of their minute size and coloration. They are found on the coastlines of New Zealand and Southern Australia and luckily are not endangered, and most definitely real. Apparently they are a huge tourist attraction, and you can watch the "penguin parade" from a wooden boardwalk as so not to disturb the birds.
They say you learn something new everyday. Today I learned something about blue penguins. Be sure to check back because now I'm dying to do a piece featuring these wonderful little guys.

Lioness in Progress

The Lioness - Erin Clark
It's been awhile since I have posted anything- I've been busy with work and life. I'm having a bit of a sleepless night tonight so I'm catching up on my personal work. So here's a little preview of my lioness I have been slowly working on. If only there were more hours in the day...or night.

A Little Owl Love

Lord knows I love owls, especially since reading the book Wesley The Owl, a story about the most incredible relationship between a woman and a barn owl. So, when I was sent this live owl cam link I just had to post this up.

It's a live feed of a male (McGee) and a female (Molly) barn owl pair with baby chicks in their nest. It's really fun to watch; they are so beautiful. Check it out here. You're welcome!

The Comic Bug Corps

The finished poster for a get together at a comic book store. I had a lot of fun putting this together, and I like how it turned out with the semi-silhouetted forms & the type in the background.

Hellboy//Batman

A clipping of a poster I'm working on for a comic book store. I chose some of my favorite comic book characters and put them together in a fun dark composition. Unlikely, but I got to choose so it doesn't matter. :) More to come when it's finished!

For the Love of Tigers

As some of you may or may not know, I recently had a serious hard drive failure that has set me back a little bit. Since I am currently without a proper computer or programs to do my work, I though I'd throw in a little animal rights article I came across. (and perhaps I will sprinkle these articles in here and there from now on)

For those who know me well know that I am an animal lover. I'm not just the regular run-of-the-mill animal loving girl. I draw animals all the time, and it has been my main subject since I was a little girl. I have 2 different zoo passes. I work at an animal shelter every week. If I could I'd probably have a ranch and a zoo and an animal shelter at my house as well as give all of my money away to animal conservation. So, you can see I'm pretty serious about my animal loving tendencies.

The other night I was searching for pictures of tigers for inspiration on a new project I'm going to be working on. As I was rummaging through google, I came across this picture of a couple of tigers.

It struck me as odd for a few reasons. These tigers look dirty, wet and unhappy behind a muddy chain link fence. I wondered what kind of place this could be. A badly managed big cat rescue? The back lot of a zoo? Intrigued, I read the article and was horrified at what I found. A "tiger farm" of sorts has been found in China, where they keep and breed dozens of tigers in squalid conditions, then sell and use the body parts after the animals die of hunger or whatever else.

Disgusting, if you ask me. It's amazing that there are still people on this earth that think it's okay to abuse and exploit endangered wild animals, AND can still get government support.

To get the whole scoop on why China needs to seriously rethink it's treatment of animals, read the article here.
